Medieval soldiership

5-12 grades and adults

During the lesson you are introduced to the armor, weapons and soldiership peculiarities of the knights of medieval Europe and the soldiery of Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The presentation and specially created educational film about a bow, crossbow and arbalest are shown. Participants can try on the armor and its parts, helmets, chain shirts, touch the weapons and take photos. You are taught to distinguish between the armor of differentiate a sword from a saber, and find out how stone cannonballs were made. On the terrace of the Duke palace you can try to shoot with bows and crossbows.

Trakai Castles in fightings with the Teutonic Knights

5-12 grades and adults

During the educational session the participants are inroduced to the defensive castle system in the Great Duchy of Lithuania and the role of Trakai Castle is analyzed. The session starts in Trakai Peninsula Castle. Having viewed the sight and walking alongside Lake Galvė you approach  the Island Castle. The exhibition is looked into partly – to the extent that it is related to the topic. During the workshop, you learn to distinguish the difference between convent and walled castles, what is the difference between Gothic and Vendian walls, you also become aware of what is shell masonry construction and other terms related to defensive architecture. Only during this session you can visit the Duke Palace defensive shelter of the island castle and the main tower dungeon.

The saints in the exposition of Sacred Art works

8-12 grades and adults

On the premises of the former Dominican convent chapel an interactive exposition of the museum is currently running. The walls of the restored monastery and its mysterious cellars remember the times when the monks, who have given their strict vows, lived there. During the workshop, you learn about the saints portrayed in the exposition of Sacred art: Dominic John of Nepomuk, St. Michael the Archangel, St. Casimir, St. Francis; the most interesting events in their lives are depicted, the facts why and how they bacame saints are revealed; it is also explained what their individual attributes are and what they mean. In the practical part of the session the portraits of saints are drawn, the puzzles are solved and the winners are awarded.
