Village Būda, 5 km from Trakai

Extended map view

This is the youngest site to visit created with joint effort of the village community “Užugiriai”. The Hill of Angels was opened in 2010 and was dedicated for commemoration of the Millennium of Lithuania and the 600th anniversary of the Trakai Church. The site currently has 36 carved oak sculptures of angels symbolizing the Christian values. Angels have been erected and are still being erected from the charitable contributions of private persons, organizations and enterprises. The famous folk-artist Algimantas Sakalauskas started the Hill of Angels, later other wood carvers joined him. Festival of sacred Music “Skamba giesmės angelų kalvoj!” (Eng.: “Chants resounding from the Angel‘s Hill”) is held on this Hill every September.
